The priorities

Solutions-focused government that works for the community. High-quality, cost-effective public services like street and sidewalk safety, maintenance, sustainable waste management, and stormwater management.

Financial stewardship that focuses on delivery of core services and advances City of Decatur strategic priorities. Maintain transparency and rigor. Perform capital planning and analysis, including the impact of planned capital improvements on taxation. Contingency plan for financial risks like declining federal support to maintain high-quality services.

Equity-focused housing affordability, building the “missing middle,” keeping seniors in their homes, supporting Decatur Housing Authority, ensuring existing ordinances for affordable housing are enforced and monitored.

Strategic growth and implementation of innovative, cost-effective solutions to meet the growing demand for housing — while balancing preservation of greenspace, neighborhood character, environmental sustainability, and affordability.

Environmental sustainability through continued implementation of Green Communities Program for building and development, trees and greenspace, recycling and waste reduction, efficient energy and water use, accelerating permitting for rooftop solar panels.

Physical and mental health and well-being for all of Decatur’s citizens through continued focus on high-quality, inclusive experiences that inspire healthy living and meaningful connections across our community. Programming for Decaturites 0-65+ using parks and greenspaces, recreation, athletic, and aquatic centers.

Economic resiliency by supporting existing business and attracting new business opportunities. Continue policies that maintain the vibrancy of Decatur’s commercial districts through the highly collaborative working relationship with Decatur Development Authority and the Decatur Business Association.
